WeKan Partners With PowerSync To Deliver Sync Solutions For MongoDB

Phillip van der Merwe

WeKan Enterprise solutions is a leading application modernization consultancy and MongoDB’s trusted partner for mobile and IOT. Over the years, their team of MongoDB expert engineers supported complex Realm & Atlas Device Sync implementations for some of Mongo’s largest enterprise customers. More recently, WeKan has been actively guiding organizations through Realm end-of-life transitions. Their expertise spans a broad spectrum of modernization and application development, with a focus on MongoDB.

Following the deprecation of Atlas Device Sync, WeKan identified PowerSync as a strong alternative and has been working closely with the PowerSync team to fast-track evaluations and implementations at MongoDB enterprise customers. The new partnership ensures continued collaboration between the two teams so that MongoDB customers have access to a proven MongoDB SI partner with expertise in delivering PowerSync-driven solutions.

WeKan Sees PowerSync As A Strong Atlas Device Sync Alternative

When MongoDB deprecated Atlas Device Sync in September 2024, PowerSync emerged as a way for MongoDB users to implement a replacement sync engine while keeping their MongoDB database and overall architecture broadly the same. Below is an overview of how high-level Atlas Device Sync components map to PowerSync’s service and client SDK:

WeKan identified PowerSync’s familiar server-client architecture as an aspect that would be important to enterprise customers who need to migrate away from Atlas Device Sync but otherwise want minimal changes to their existing architecture:

“At WeKan, we have been at the forefront of helping enterprises build scalable and resilient applications using MongoDB. With Atlas Device Sync and Realm going end-of-life, businesses need a robust alternative for real-time data synchronisation. We are excited to collaborate with PowerSync to ensure MongoDB customers continue to have the best-in-class sync capabilities for their mission-critical applications”

Pablo Jimenez, CEO WeKan Enterprise Solutions

Enterprise Ready

PowerSync’s MongoDB Connector has GA status and is fully supported for production use. Multiple MongoDB customers use PowerSync in production today. Read more about the V1 release.

The PowerSync Service is source-available and self-hostable, but is also available through the fully managed PowerSync Cloud offering. Premium support is available on both PowerSync Cloud and Enterprise Self-Hosted plans.

WeKan’s Support For Implementing PowerSync

WeKan provides key services to support a transition to PowerSync:

  1. Assessment & Consultancy
  2. Proof-of-Concept (POC) Service
  3. Structured Migration Path
  4. Technical Support and Training

Assessment & Consultancy

WeKan conducts a two-week assessment involving discovery workshops and technical deep dives to evaluate dependencies, security, performance, scalability, and future needs. The result is a customized migration roadmap with recommended solutions, architecture diagrams, and a strategy aligned with business goals.

Proof-of-Concept (POC) Service

WeKan’s POC service ensures a reliable migration strategy. This phase allows businesses to test PowerSync against success criteria by building a sample mobile app that simulates the new environment. Through planning, implementation, testing, and documentation, WeKan assesses performance, integration, and feasibility—enabling informed decisions before proceeding with full-scale migration.

Structured Migration Path

Once the assessment and POC phases are complete, WeKan executes a structured migration plan designed to minimize disruptions. The migration process is broken into key phases, including integrating new SDKs, optimizing data models, transitioning queries, and deploying a pilot before a full rollout. WeKan ensures that all code changes, data migrations, security configurations, and performance optimizations are handled efficiently, enabling a smooth transition with minimal downtime.

Conclusion

With Atlas Device Sync no longer available, organizations relying on MongoDB now face important decisions about their sync architecture. WeKan’s collaboration with PowerSync gives MongoDB users a practical path forward. Together, the teams have already helped customers navigate the shift and continue to build production-ready systems. As more organizations approach this transition, WeKan’s experience and structured approach aim to make the process as straightforward and reliable as possible.
